Selamawit tiene 29 años. Dio a luz a su primer hijo en Eritrea. Ella y su familia lo pasaron mal allí, así que decidieron irse a Italia.

Selamawit is 29 years old. She gave birth to her first child in Eritrea. She and her family had a hard time there, so they decided to go to Italy.

Inga se fue de casa justo antes de cumplir 19 años. Se trasladó a Noruega y allí tuvo a su primer hijo.

Inga left home just before she turned 19. She moved to Norway and had her first child there.

Cuando Selamawit quedó embarazada de su segundo hijo, se preguntó cómo sería tener un hijo en otro país.

When Selamawit became pregnant with her second child, she wondered what it would be like to have a child in a different country.

Selamawit e Inga proceden de entornos diferentes. Selamawit se sentía segura porque tenía experiencia en partos. Inga habló con su madre sobre el parto.

Selamawit and Inga come from different backgrounds. Selamawit felt safe because she had experience with giving birth. Inga talked to her mother about giving birth.

Ambas mujeres habían oído que, en la mayoría de los países europeos, las embarazadas tienen derecho a recibir atención prenatal. Esto significa que recibirán ayuda durante el embarazo. Selamawit pidió cita con su médico tan pronto como se dio cuenta de que estaba embarazada. Su marido la llevó al médico.

Both women had heard that, in most European countries, pregnant women have the right to antenatal care. This means that they will get help during their pregnancies. Selamawit made an appointment with her doctor as soon as she realised she was pregnant. Selamawit’s husband drove her to the doctor.

El médico le hizo algunas pruebas y descubrió que Selamawit tenía un tipo de diabetes que padecen algunas mujeres embarazadas. Tenía que comer alimentos sanos y hacer ejercicio. Selamawit se alegró de haber ido pronto al médico, antes de que ella y su bebé enfermaran.

The doctor did some tests and found out that Selamawit had a kind of diabetes that some pregnant women get. She had to eat healthy food and exercise. Selamawit was glad she went to the doctor early, before she and her baby became ill.

Cuando la vecina de Inga se enteró de que estaba intentando tener un hijo, le dijo que fuera al médico en cuanto estuviera embarazada. De ese modo se aseguraría de que ella y su bebé estuvieran sanos. El médico le dijo que tomara ácido fólico, una vitamina importante para las mujeres embarazadas.

When Inga’s neighbour heard that she was trying to have a baby, the neighbour told her to see a doctor as soon as she was pregnant. That way she could make sure that she and her baby were healthy. The doctor told her to take folic acid, a vitamin that is important for pregnant women.

Inga y su médico acordaron que acudiría a una matrona para someterse a revisiones periódicas durante el embarazo. La matrona le dio consejos sobre alimentación y descanso, e información sobre cómo mantenerse sana y salva tanto ella como su bebé.

Inga and her doctor agreed that she would meet a midwife for regular check-ups during her pregnancy. The midwife gave her advice on food and rest, and information on how to keep herself and her baby safe and well.

Ambas mujeres dieron a luz a bebés sanos. Selamawit tuvo otro hijo, mientras que Inga tuvo una hija. Sus maridos estaban muy orgullosos y les contaban a todos los que conocían lo fuertes que eran sus esposas y lo sanos que estaban sus hijos.

Both women gave birth to healthy babies. Selamawit had another son, while Inga had a daughter. Their husbands were very proud, and they told everyone they knew about their strong wives and healthy children.
